Type 1 Diabetes is difficult,

and it can feel isolating and lonely.

the problem

It’s likely that most individuals diagnosed with Type 1 will experience diabetes-specific emotional distress at some point in their lives, especially during the difficult years and transitions into adolescence and young adulthood. People diagnosed with Type 1 are also 2 to 3x more likely to experience symptoms of anxiety and/or depression than their peers. Caregivers/parents for a child or teen with Type 1 are also significantly more likely to experience high levels of parent stress than parents of children without chronic illness.

Many mental health professionals outside of a medical setting don’t receive proper training in understanding the best methods to help people with Type 1. Mental health counselors who both specialize in Type 1 and have personal experience with the disease are rare, and it’s likely you won’t be able to find a specialist within driving distance.

the Mission

The mission is to provide better access to the best mental health support for individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes and the people who care for them. The best method to do this is through online mental health counseling. Online mental health counseling allows you to talk with a mental health counselor who specializes in helping populations with Type 1 Diabetes, all from the comfort of your own home. Online mental health counseling provides all of the same benefits as meeting face-to-face in a counseling office, but it also provides you more flexibility, convenience, and better access to the professionals who specialize in this disease.
