Parenting Consultation and Education

Whether you have a child, an adolescent, or a young adult with Type 1, parenting while managing Type 1 is not an easy task. Balancing the diabetes manager role with the parenting role often creates frustration, stress, sadness and conflict for many parents. If you are a parent/caregiver and you’d like help with parenting techniques, education, and consulting about parenting, this method may be best for you. Education can include learning about techniques for discipline, as well as techniques to help your child regulate and cope with emotions and gain confidence. Gaining insight into the emotions and behaviors of your child that can result while struggling with balancing daily living, coping, and diabetes management can build the bond between parent/caregiver and child. While I am able to help with parenting and the emotions, behaviors, and discipline that relate to Type 1, please note that I am not a diabetes educator, and am unable to answer diabetes education-specific questions. These types of questions are best suited for your diabetes educator or your child’s endocrinologist.
