About dr. carroll
Nicole Carroll holds a Ph.D. in Early Childhood Development from Texas Woman’s University, with a research focus on Type 1 Diabetes and mental health. She received a Master’s in Counseling from Southern Methodist University in 2012, with a specialty in child and adolescent counseling. She has worked with children, adolescents, and parents in several settings, including private practice and nonprofit agency. Previously, Nicole served for two years as secretary on the executive board for the north Texas chapter of The Texas Association for Play Therapy. She has experience serving as a children’s counselor at a local emergency domestic violence shelter. Nicole also presents on and publishes research articles on the topics of mental health, Type 1 Diabetes, and mental health counseling.
Nicole celebrated 25 years of living with Type 1 Diabetes in December 2019. While Type 1 Diabetes is a burden, for her it is also a source of inspiration and motivation to help others. Her diagnosis experience inspires her passion for mental health, counseling, and research for Type 1 Diabetes. She enjoys spending time with family and friends and loves coffee, running, reading, Netflix, movies. She also enjoys spending time in the backyard with her husband, son, and three dogs.
